Job Overview


The City of New York is dedicated to fostering a diverse workforce that reflects the community it serves. We are currently in search of a qualified individual to join our team as an Infrastructure Systems Specialist.


This role is pivotal in advancing the organization’s IT objectives, ensuring a resilient infrastructure, effective deployment strategies, and operational stability amidst the dynamic landscape of technology.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and optimize x86-based server systems, guaranteeing peak performance, dependability, and security.
  • Manage Cisco networking equipment to facilitate seamless and reliable data communication.
  • Collaborate with IT peers to strategize, execute, and support the migration to Nutanix Hyper Converged Infrastructure for enhanced storage and server integration.
  • Deploy, scale, and manage Azure cloud instances to accommodate the organization’s expanding digital needs.
  • Implement and oversee IGEL-powered Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) systems for secure and efficient management of workstations.
  • Engage in the design and execution of data center modernization projects, including upgrades to HVAC systems, consolidation of UPS systems, fire suppression strategies, and centralized cabling management.
  • Conduct regular system evaluations, performance enhancements, and security audits to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Resolve hardware and software issues, coordinating with vendors for technical assistance as necessary.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure the smooth integration of new technologies and solutions.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting protocols.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to recommend and implement enhancements.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
  • Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required; relevant certifications (e.g., x86 Platforms, Microsoft, Cisco, Nutanix, Azure) are preferred.


A minimum of 5 years of experience in system engineering roles, focusing on server, storage, and/or network infrastructure.


Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment, protocols, and security best practices is essential.


Experience in managing and optimizing Nutanix Hyper Converged Infrastructure environments is required.


Proficiency in deploying and managing Azure cloud resources is necessary.


A strong understanding of virtualization technologies, including VDI solutions like IGEL, is expected.


Knowledge of data center modernization concepts and technologies is advantageous.


Excellent troubleshooting abilities and a capacity to efficiently diagnose and resolve technical challenges are essential.


Strong communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are necessary.


A detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities is required.


All candidates must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or a four-year high school diploma and six years of satisfactory full-time information technology experience, with at least two years in the aforementioned areas.


Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience. A master’s degree in computer science or a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
