Junior Research Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Junior Specialist to join our dynamic research team in the Krogan lab at the University of California, San Francisco. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in molecular biology, virology, and proteomics, with a focus on understanding protein interactions and pathways involved in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection and latency.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, PCR, and western blotting.
- Work with cell/tissue culture and perform affinity purifications of proteins.
- Develop and implement new protocols for gene-editing and mass spectrometry-based proteomics experiments.
- Prepare, sequence, and analyze next-generation sequencing libraries to support CRISPR screening experiments.
- Isolate and culture primary human immune cells, and perform functional analysis via Sanger sequencing and flow cytometry.
- Purify infectious HIV and infect T cells with HIV in a biosafety level-3 facility.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
- Experience in essential molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, PCR, and western blotting.
- Experience in cell/tissue culture.
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines, with excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to work with infectious HIV virus in a BSL-3 facility.
- Ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
- Experience with transfection or viral transduction.
- Experience with affinity purifications of proteins.
- Experience with CRISPR/gene editing techniques.
- Experience with immunoprecipitation.
- Experience in preparation of samples for mass spectrometric analysis.
- Experience in fluorescence microscopy.
- Experience with mass spectrometry data.
- Experience with managing large datasets and/or databases.
- Experience with statistical data analysis.
