Position: Junior Specialist / Assistant Specialist - Computational Research
The National Community Pharmacists Association is seeking candidates for the Oni-Orisan Lab, focusing on pivotal research within the realm of pharmacogenomics. Our lab is dedicated to identifying genetic factors that influence drug efficacy and safety, particularly in underrepresented populations.
We are looking for motivated individuals to support our team in the collection, management, and analysis of extensive datasets that include electronic health records, genomic information, medication regimens, and clinical outcomes.
Current projects involve:
- Investigating the genetic and social factors affecting drug responses among diverse racial and ethnic groups.
- Evaluating the clinical relevance of polygenic risk scores for coronary heart disease prevention through real-world data analysis.
- Identifying genetic variants linked to the risk of new-onset diabetes in patients using statins.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing drug response phenotypes and constructing comprehensive longitudinal datasets.
- Creating visual representations of data for analysis.
- Conducting statistical analyses and preparing detailed reports on findings.
- Archiving code and methodologies for future reference.
We expect our specialists to contribute significantly to advancing the field of pharmacogenomics. A commitment of at least 18 months is required, with potential opportunities for independent research based on performance and workload. Ideal candidates will possess a strong interest or background in precision medicine, cardiology, or pharmacogenomics.
Required Qualifications:
- Junior Specialist: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience.
- Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with three or more years of relevant research experience.
- Experience in a research environment is essential.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or R.
- Strong statistical analysis skills and familiarity with statistical software packages.
- Experience managing large datasets and conducting complex analyses.
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex information clearly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
