Job Overview

The Walden School is a nurturing, innovative, co-educational institution catering to 200 students from PreK to 6th grade.

Our preschool division accommodates 30 children aged 3-5, supported by four dedicated full-time educators, six specialized classes, and additional part-time personnel to assist with professional meetings, extended care, and teacher preparation. We pride ourselves on a strong collaborative environment and a commitment to teamwork.

Applicants must successfully complete a live scan (no criminal convictions) and be available to work from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Opportunities for extra hours are frequently available.

Experience in preschool or childcare settings along with 12 Child Development Units is mandatory.

The preschool program operates in alignment with the elementary school calendar, with hours from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Extended Care available from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Walden School runs a 10-month academic year, complemented by a 6-week summer camp option for students. We proudly serve a diverse community of families.

The ideal candidate will effectively collaborate with a preschool team to design and implement all facets of the preschool program. Qualified individuals should exhibit a genuine enthusiasm for engaging with preschool-aged children, a growth-oriented mindset, adaptability, a dedication to continuous professional growth, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with a lead teacher to deliver developmentally appropriate activities for the class.
  • Set and communicate clear expectations for students, emphasizing respect, collaboration, participation, community-building, and problem-solving.
  • Engage with students in a democratic manner, modeling good citizenship, critical thinking, and responsibility as a member of the classroom and school community.
  • Exhibit a solid understanding of child development relevant to the age group.
  • Act in a manner that exemplifies and promotes the school's values of personal dignity, conflict resolution, and diversity.
  • Collaborate with all members of the Walden community, including children, parents, lead and specialty teachers, and administrators.
  • Complete all required annual training (CPR, Basic Pediatric First Aid, mandatory reporting, and other licensing training).
