Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Teacher Aide at the Institute for the Redesign of Learning. In this 31-hour-per-week position, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners while working collaboratively with a supportive and experienced team of professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with exceptional needs, facilitating their access to and engagement with their curriculum or school activities.
  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers through one-on-one or small group instruction, reviewing material with students to reinforce their understanding.
  • Assist in supervising students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Meet with teachers to review daily lesson plans and contribute information and ideas as appropriate, promoting a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Work with students in one-on-one or small group situations to reinforce instruction and help them learn specific academic skills, tailoring your approach to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Observe and support students in controlling their behavior through the use of positive behavior strategies, de-escalation techniques, competence builders, and other tools and techniques as outlined in Taking Charge for Educators, Pro-Act, and/or CPI.
  • During behavioral breakdowns or emergencies, use your skills to professionally assess the situation, decide on an appropriate course of action, and initiate interventions as necessary to ensure student and staff safety.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including incident reports, Behavioral Emergency Reports, response reports, data collection, assignment sheets, and other required documents, in a timely manner as defined by company policy or state legal requirements.
  • Participate in special programs with students as required, providing individualized support and instruction to meet their unique needs.
  • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of students by being aware of the environment and the potential of student actions, and assist the teacher or specialist according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance to students, assisting in directing group activities and promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Pass a job-related health screening
  • Complete and pass an in-house, 10-week training program
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • CPR and First Aid Certificates (can be provided via in-house training)
  • Must clear a current background check through the FBI & DOJ
  • A current TB test (within 6 months)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least an Associate's degree
  • 1-3 years' experience working in education or with school-aged children
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
