Position SummaryThe Lead Phlebotomist embodies the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adhering to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program while complying with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Under the guidance of the Supervisor/Manager, the Lead Phlebotomist is accountable for the daily performance, organization, and scheduling of staff within the centralized phlebotomy unit. This role is essential in ensuring that the services rendered meet both customer expectations and laboratory protocols. Effective communication with shift supervisors and other healthcare staff is crucial to promote teamwork. Additionally, the Lead Phlebotomist collaborates with the Supervisor to gather insights and support staff development and training initiatives. This position also involves hands-on phlebotomy duties.
Key Responsibilities:- Facilitates the recruitment, training, and assessment of phlebotomy personnel.
- Instructs less experienced staff on phlebotomy techniques.
- Implements coaching and performance enhancement strategies for team members not meeting established standards.
- Supports communication and problem-solving efforts across departments.
- Performs all essential phlebotomy tasks.
- Ensures adequate staffing levels for phlebotomy services.
- Provides coverage during staff absences and vacations.
- Assists in updating and refining the phlebotomy training curriculum.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to phlebotomy services.
Essential:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills.
- PBT (ASCP) certification or equivalent.
