Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Auditor 2 to join our team at the New York State Teachers' Retirement System. As a working supervisor, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and monitoring comprehensive audits and appraisals of accounting and program records and financial affairs to ensure compliance with governing laws, rules, regulations, and contracts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the auditor-in-charge and perform audits to ensure that transactions are processed and properly accounted for, and effective controls are in place.
  • Review and approve audit plans, progress, and final reports prepared by internal audit staff.
  • Supervise internal audit staff and help to develop their skills.
  • Determine the scope of audits and assign long-term work plans to internal audit staff to meet priorities and workload.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with supervisors, other auditors, and with employees and representatives of the organizations being audited in a complete, accurate, and concise manner.
  • Conduct and/or participate in entrance conferences with representatives of the organization being audited to explain audit goals and methodology and to gain access to records.
  • Perform research on complex assignments, understanding applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation.
  • Propose and lead projects to enhance the internal audit program.
  • Present engagement results to internal customers and the Audit Committee.
  • Network with other auditing professionals and participate in professional organizations.
Requirements
  • Either 1) Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list; OR 2) Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as an Auditor OR 3) Eligible for transfer under the provisions of the Civil Service Law by virtue of having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Graduate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of information security principles and practices.
Work Modality

This position is subject to a hybrid work schedule.

Salary and Benefits

This position is a Grade 23 with a salary range of $96,294 to $125,641.
