Expert Psychologist for Inmate Rehabilitation

Position Overview:
Under the guidance of management, within a State correctional institution or outpatient facility under the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, this role involves undertaking complex and significant responsibilities related to psychological evaluation and intervention. The incumbent will act as a specialized consultant and expert in a designated area of psychology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments and develop treatment plans for inmates.
- Ensure the maintenance of order and oversee inmate behavior to uphold safety standards.
- Provide expert consultation across the department in psychological matters.
- Engage in related duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
License: A valid Psychologist license issued by the California Board of Psychology is required, along with a Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution as per Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
Applicants who are not yet licensed but are in the process of obtaining their license may still apply. However, they must secure a valid license within three years of their appointment to maintain employment.
Experience Requirements:
Candidates must meet one of the following:
- One year of experience in California state service as a Psychologist Clinical, Correctional Facility, or Staff Psychologist in any specialty; or
- Two years of postdoctoral experience in psychology that includes assessment and treatment, as well as involvement in training, research, consultation, or program development in mental health services.

Travel may be necessary as part of the role.

New hires will undergo a background investigation process and Tuberculosis testing before appointment, followed by annual evaluations thereafter.
