Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our team at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital. As a Staff Nurse Inpatient-Kishwaukee, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care on the Telemetry Unit, working a 7am-7:30pm, three 12-hour shifts per week schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, identifying physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental variables affecting the patient.
  • Develop and update individualized nursing plans of care, incorporating input from interdisciplinary team members and patient/family/significant others.
  • Initiate and coordinate effective communication with physicians and other healthcare providers, reporting and recording pertinent observations and reactions regarding patient/family/significant others.
  • Prioritize patient care needs, demonstrating ability to readjust priorities with changing patient status or unit activity.
  • Actively participate in discharge planning, documenting patient teaching, patient/family understanding of plan, and timely referrals.
  • Apply Standards of Care in the provision of safe patient care, considering normal characteristics of growth and development throughout the life span.
  • Administer prescribed medications and perform treatments in a safe manner, utilizing knowledge of standards of care in medication administration.
  • Provide pain management and comfort support to patients and their families.
  • Anticipate patient needs, coordinating patient care activities with other hospital departments, healthcare providers, and agencies in the community.
  • Evaluate patient diagnostic data in a timely manner, intervening appropriately.
  • Comprehensively and accurately document treatments, assessments, and patient responses to nursing actions and interventions/medical regime.
  • Communicate patient status changes to shift charge nurse, physician, and/or other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Evaluate patient and family response to teaching plan, including level of understanding, acceptance, and compliance.
  • Initiate patient care conferences and revise plan of care based on patient response to interventions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Strong analytic abilities
  • Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to obtain a BSN from an accredited program within three years of first day of employment in clinical nurse role
