ROLE SUMMARY:
The Clinical Cytology Specialist is tasked with engaging in intricate, highly specialized functions related to the examination of clinical specimen slides for indications of malignancy or other pathological conditions. Responsibilities include documenting findings and activities in accordance with departmental protocols, which encompass marking abnormalities, providing diagnoses, and identifying cases for quality assurance or further evaluation by a pathologist. This position necessitates the execution of routine quality control, participation in cellular assessments for specimen adequacy, provision of procedural support, and performance of specimen processing as required. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the technical oversight and guidance of standard cytology processing procedures to ensure optimal quality and diagnostic efficiency within the department. This position demands technical diagnostic proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and analytical capabilities to address any technical challenges encountered.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited cytology program.
- Minimum of one year of laboratory experience.
Experience:
- Three years of full-time experience as a certified Cytotechnologist in a Cytology Laboratory.
- CT (ASCP) certification.
- Technical expertise required to interpret tests, identify abnormal results, validate and enhance new testing platforms, synthesize complex technical procedures, and troubleshoot technical or equipment issues.
- Analytical skills necessary for determining appropriate specimen preparation methods and evaluating the suitability of slides and stains produced.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and technical proficiency.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective interaction and communication with patients and healthcare professionals.
- High level of professionalism and adept performance in high-pressure situations.
