Job Title: Assistant Professor of Archaeological Studies

Position Overview:
The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, specializing in historical archaeology. The focus of this role will be on the archaeology related to Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora within the Americas or the Caribbean.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver both introductory and advanced courses in archaeology, historical archaeology, and applied archaeology across various degree programs.
2. Facilitate hands-on training for both undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Sustain an active research agenda that is externally funded and leads to peer-reviewed publications.
4. Provide mentorship to undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. candidates.
5. Engage in service activities within the department, college, and university.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. in anthropology or archaeology at the time of appointment.
- Research expertise in the archaeology of Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora in the Americas or Caribbean.
- A proven track record of scholarly publications.
- Teaching experience or the capability to instruct courses such as Introduction to Archaeology, Historical Archaeology, Archaeological Theory, and Historical Archaeological Methods.

Preferred:
- Experience in mentoring students.
- Background in collaborating with descendant communities.
- Familiarity with methodologies and technologies that enhance the department's current offerings.
- Evidence of securing external research funding or a strategy to obtain such funding in the future.
