Position Title:
Professor of Compassionate Healthcare Studies

Salary Range:
The minimum salary for this role is determined by the appointment type and rank, with a base pay range of $102,500 - $218,500. Salary negotiations occur annually, and additional compensation may be available for members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

Position Description

The Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego is dedicated to fostering academic excellence and diversity among faculty, staff, and students. Our faculty are recognized for delivering outstanding clinical care, pioneering research, and exceptional educational experiences.

We are seeking candidates whose research, teaching, and service align with our commitment to excellence, diversity, and inclusion in higher education. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a robust program of high-quality research and engage in teaching activities that support the mission of the Department of Psychiatry.

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate an interest in contributing to mentoring programs focused on empathy and compassion. Responsibilities will include teaching, which may involve lecturing and mentoring in various educational initiatives, as well as participating in research and clinical care.

The appointment will be made at the Associate or Full Professor level, contingent upon the candidate's qualifications and experience. The position may involve a combination of Ladder Rank and In-Residence series, with a focus on securing extramural funding.

As a participant in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, appointees should be aware of the limitations on outside professional activities, including restrictions on clinical moonlighting.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must possess a PhD in health sciences or a related field, and/or an MD degree or equivalent.

A current research program in a health-related discipline, along with a proven track record of obtaining extramural funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals, is essential.

Experience in teaching and mentorship is also required.

Candidates with an MD or equivalent must be Board certified or Board eligible in their specialty and eligible for a California medical license.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research related to empathy and compassion.

Contributions to the fields of social psychology or neuroscience will also be considered favorably.
