Department:

The Department of Anthropology at Texas State University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, specializing in historical archaeology. The focus will be on the archaeology related to Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora within the Americas or the Caribbean.

Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver both introductory and advanced courses in archaeology, historical archaeology, and applied archaeology across various degree programs.
- Provide hands-on training for both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Maintain an active research agenda that is externally funded and leads to peer-reviewed publications.
- Mentor students at the undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. levels.
- Engage in service activities within the department, college, and university.

Essential Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in anthropology or archaeology by the time of appointment.
- Research expertise in the archaeology of Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora in the Americas or Caribbean.
- A proven track record of scholarly publications.
- Experience or capability to teach courses such as Introduction to Archaeology, Historical Archaeology, Archaeological Theory, and Historical Archaeological Methods.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in mentoring students.
- Background in collaborating with descendant communities.
- Familiarity with methodologies and technologies that enhance the department's current offerings.
- Evidence of securing external research funding or a strategic plan to pursue such funding in the future.
