Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant - Behavioral Support to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As a key member of our educational support team, you will play a vital role in providing behavior redirection and intervention programs to support student success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement behavior redirection strategies to promote learning and reduce the use of punishment techniques.
  • Guide students' behavior from inappropriate to appropriate, providing immediate and consistent interventions as needed.
  • Meet with students referred for inappropriate behavior and intervene early in the behavior cycle.
  • Shorten the time students are out of the classroom due to inappropriate behavior, providing a structured format to investigate and address the issue.
  • Help students focus on positive choices and develop written plans with students, teachers, and families to improve behavior.
  • Return students to the classroom as soon as possible, with a plan for positive choices that enable learning to occur.
  • Keep accurate records and utilize district logs for all students served.
  • Serve as a model in developing students' language and positive behavior.
  • Provide observation and consultation, as needed, for teachers to reduce disruptive, inappropriate student behaviors in the classroom.
  • Attend required trainings annually, as determined by the Counseling Department.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licensure based on State Department of Education Regulation No. 90-5.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience with educational equipment preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education Assistant Experience.
  • Behavior Management Experience.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
