Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and working closely with certified personnel to ensure the success of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and small group support to students in the classroom, reinforcing material introduced by the teacher.
  • Model language and behavior for students, promoting positive interactions and relationships.
  • Collect, prepare, and arrange resource materials for use by certified personnel.
  • Maintain accurate classroom records, prepare reports as requested, and manage supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Monitor student activities in classrooms, school grounds, and other areas, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist with non-instructional classroom duties, such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, and clothing areas.
  • Participate in teacher-parent conferences and meetings as requested.
  • Reinforce the implementation of IEP goals, using similar emphasis and techniques as the classroom teacher.
  • Train students in self-help skills, including eating, toileting, hygiene, and behavior management, as well as academic skills.
  • Assist with custodial skills of students, including lifting, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance.
  • Escort students to other locations on campus and off campus with the approval of the classroom teacher.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and an Educational Assistants License from PED or take 6 credits annually towards an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education.
  • Intentional Teaching: Module I-Powered Interactions and Module II-Observational Assessment must be completed within two months of hire.
  • ECERS-3 online training, which must be completed within six months of hire or six months from start of FOCUS implementation.
  • The Full Participation of Each Child, which must be completed within two years of hire or two years from start of FOCUS implementation.
  • New Mexico Pyramid Framework, which must be completed within two years of hire or two years from the start of FOCUS implementation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Previous experience in childcare preferred.
