Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue II to join our team at Warren County, VA. As a key member of our Revenue Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and efficient collection of revenue for our county.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process personal property tax forms and assist with the assessment of real property
  • Assist with personal property, business license, food and beverage, and transient taxes
  • Maintain records and files, prepare reports, and document scanning
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to inquiries from the public
  • Perform site visits to properties to assess improvements and discover personal property
  • Assist the Supervisor of the RE Department and perform duties of a Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue I
  • Maintain real estate, land use, and sanitary district files, and assist taxpayers with questions concerning tax relief and land use programs
  • Calculate rollback taxes and assess land use values
  • Work closely with the reassessment team to provide documents for an accurate reassessment
  • Prepare various surveys and reports for the Department of Taxation, including the ratio study and other requests
  • Audit business personal property accounts, tax relief for the elderly and disabled, and land use applications
  • Review and compare data on the State website and assess recreational vehicles, vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, business equipment, and machinery
  • Perform related tasks as required
Requirements
  • General knowledge of laws and administration of policies governing real and personal property
  • Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and standard office and accounting equipment
  • Ability to prepare and maintain detailed financial records and reports
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations quickly and accurately
  • Ability to operate standard office and computer equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County Officials, associates, and the general public
Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in the real estate field or personal property.

Physical Requirements

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
