POSITION OVERVIEW

The Heavy Equipment Transport Operator is required to possess a valid CDL driver license. This role involves working collaboratively as part of a team and may include operating machinery or performing general labor tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all tasks in alignment with Sunland's Core Values.
  • Work efficiently and safely to achieve production targets set by supervisors.
  • Safely load and unload various Sunland-owned machinery including pavers, milling machines, and more.
  • Understand and adhere to all DOT and local regulations.
  • Ensure vehicle readiness before departing the yard or job site, coordinating with mechanics for necessary repairs.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, completing DVIRs to comply with legal standards.
  • Maintain accurate logs of driving hours as mandated by regulations.
  • Champion safety practices and participate in job-site safety meetings and training.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, foremen, and team members.
  • Transport equipment to and from job sites and assist in equipment maintenance.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain machinery and tools.
  • Set up and dismantle equipment as needed.
  • Keep the job site organized and secure daily.
  • Act as a representative of the company, providing excellent service to clients and the public.
  • Utilize various hand tools and perform general labor tasks as required.
  • Fulfill any additional duties as assigned. Note that this job description is not exhaustive and may change as needed.
SUPERVISORY ROLE
  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
  • This role is classified as safety-sensitive and is subject to the company's drug and alcohol policy, along with all OSHA regulations.
  • All employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Act as a safety advocate by adhering to all safety policies and proactively addressing hazards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position involves working at construction sites and may require effective communication, physical stamina, and the ability to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be exposed to chemicals, noise, and other environmental factors.
POSITION TYPE AND HOURS
  • This is a full-time role, with potential evening and weekend work as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites is essential.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in transporting oversized or overweight loads.
  • Fluency in English is required.
Certifications and Licenses
  • A valid Class A CDL license in the relevant state.
  • Hazmat or tanker endorsements may be necessary based on specific job requirements.
  • A clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Must pass a DOT physical and maintain a current medical card.
  • Successful completion of a DOT drug test is required.
  • Passing a safety road test is also necessary.
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required.
