Position Overview:
The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist at AHMC Healthcare is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive credentialing process for medical staff and allied health professionals. This role includes managing new applications, reappointments, and resignations, as well as maintaining and updating privilege lists. The Specialist plays a pivotal role in the Credentials Committee and the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee, ensuring that all documentation is prepared for physician review and actively participating in accreditation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the credentialing and onboarding processes for medical staff and allied health professionals, including the management of new applicants, reappointments, and temporary privileges.
  2. Serve as the primary user and trainer for the physician database, collaborating with the database support team as necessary to create and manage reports.
  3. Organize and facilitate monthly Credentials Committee and Interdisciplinary Practice Committee meetings, including the preparation of agenda packets, securing physician reviewers, documenting minutes, and addressing outstanding issues.
  4. Compile and present monthly reports for the hospital board.
  5. Maintain and regularly update privilege lists for all medical staff and allied health professionals.
  6. Monitor proctoring processes for physicians and allied health professionals, ensuring timely follow-up on any delinquencies.
  7. Stay informed about current JCAHO credentialing and privileging standards.
  8. Ensure that credentialing files are orderly, complete, and ready for surveys.
  9. Collect and secure all necessary documentation for credentialing processes and follow up on any outstanding items.
  10. Gather required quality assurance information from various departments within the organization.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:
- Previous experience in credentialing and privileging processes.
- Proficient in writing meeting summaries and transcribing minutes.
- Experience with credentialing databases is advantageous.

Certifications:
- No specific certifications required; however, CPCS (Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist) is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
- Detail-oriented with the capability to manage a high volume of paperwork accurately.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while processing credential files.
- Commitment to staying updated with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is highly desirable.
