Job Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Systems Engineer will spearhead a product innovation and system architecture team within the Global New Product Introduction (NPI) division. This role is pivotal in overseeing unit efficiency, product validation, troubleshooting issues, and managing product costs. The position demands a comprehensive understanding of the intricate design and operational performance of industrial refrigeration systems. As the custodian of technical knowledge, the Systems Engineer will serve as the technical authority within project teams.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accountable for timely delivery and oversight of new product development, ongoing engineering projects, cost optimization, and additional assignments related to the product line.
  • Conducts thorough investigations and assessments of product design requirements, aligning specifications with customer needs in the industrial refrigeration sector, and proposing optimal solutions.
  • Formulates operational strategies by defining, analyzing, estimating, and evaluating condenser applications in real-world scenarios while exploring alternative solutions and assessing their impact on system functionality and performance.
  • Proactively identifies potential operational challenges by examining performance targets, operational modes, unit constraints, and overall unit efficiency.
  • Provides support for manufacturing, quality assurance, and field-related issues, actively engaging in root cause analysis initiatives.
  • Recognizes and implements enhancements to products and identifies opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Establishes testing criteria, engages in laboratory evaluations, and interprets test results to enhance product performance attributes.
  • Utilizes technical and mathematical principles, theories, and best practices in product development.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of mechanical design and effectively communicates design concepts to team members.
  • Continuously expands knowledge across all facets of product design, theory, construction, operation, and applications.
  • Acquires and applies knowledge of regulatory standards such as CTI, GB, UL, ASME, CE, and PED.
  • Commits to ongoing improvement and collaboration within a global product development and process framework.
  • Adheres to the organization's Code of Conduct and Business Ethics.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Occasional travel to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and trade exhibitions, potentially up to 15%, including international destinations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Essential Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master's degree is advantageous.
  • Systems Proficiency: Intermediate skills in 3D CAD systems, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and project management tools.
  • General Qualifications:
  • Highly skilled professional capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, adept at engaging with a diverse global audience.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to interpret and translate engineering requirements for components, subsystems, and products.
  • Excellent time management, project management, and product development capabilities.
  • Proficient in researching and sourcing technical information from various platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with key stakeholders to derive essential metrics from product designs and ensure all design objectives are met.
  • Technical Qualifications:
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the HVAC/refrigeration sector, focusing on product/system design or field services; experience in commercial and/or industrial refrigeration is preferred.
    • In-depth knowledge of circulating air blower systems, heating and cooling systems (including refrigeration psychometrics), and electrical systems.
    • Experience in selecting components and equipment, such as fans, pumps, and piping.
    • Practical understanding of fluid flow and airflow principles.
  • Preferred Candidate Qualifications:
    • Experience in commercial or industrial refrigeration system design is preferred.
    • Familiarity with industrial control systems; software programming experience is a plus.
    • Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Design of Experiments; knowledge of HALT (or equivalent) is preferred.
    • Experience in sound and vibration measurement and analysis is a plus.
    • Knowledge of heat transfer concepts is advantageous.
    • Ability to run FEA/CFD models and communicate design insights based on analysis results.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Standard working hours are 40 hours per week (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM), with flexible start and finish times.
  • Travel, both domestic and international, may account for up to 15% of the role.
  • This position supports global teams, requiring occasional evening or weekend hours, often manageable from home with a portable computer.
  • Primarily sedentary office work is expected; however, periodic travel to manufacturing facilities for assembly (medium work) is necessary.
