Job Overview

Role Summary:

The Buyer will be responsible for acquiring goods, materials, and services to meet the operational demands of the company, ensuring that considerations of cost, quality, and timely delivery are met to maintain a continuous supply chain. This role encompasses a wide range of procurement duties to support our business objectives. The Buyer will also assist with additional purchasing tasks as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with suppliers to guarantee timely deliveries, avoiding shortages or back orders.
  • Serve as a liaison between suppliers and various departments within Knapheide regarding purchasing processes, new initiatives, and product supply programs.
  • Negotiate cost-effective agreements based on volume, product specifications, or value assessments.
  • Establish, nurture, and manage supplier relationships while ensuring effective communication.
  • Monitor supply chain issues that may pose risks or present opportunities for the organization.
  • Collaborate with Fleet and Truck Pool Departments concerning material specifications.
  • Address any adjustments or communications with suppliers related to quality, non-conformance, obsolete, or slow-moving inventory.
  • Oversee inventory levels to align with customer requirements and fluctuations.
  • Conduct inventory control and cycle counting activities.
  • Work closely with colleagues in procurement to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve any issues related to pricing, quality, delivery, or invoicing.
  • Perform all purchasing functions typical of a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in a business-related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in material planning or purchasing, with familiarity in MRP/ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations is advantageous.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential, particularly in MRP/ERP, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

The role involves normal standing, bending, walking, and lifting within an office environment, along with the ability to communicate verbally with individuals.
