Supervision: Reports to Senior Immigration Attorney

Compensation Range: $18.00-$23.00/hr based on experience


Role Summary

As a Legal Support Specialist for Minors, you will be integral to our Immigration Program, providing essential administrative assistance and working closely with clients under the supervision of our legal team.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Mission Commitment: Support the mission of Catholic Community Services of Utah (CCS) and its immigration and refugee resettlement initiatives.
  2. Administrative Tasks: Manage various administrative responsibilities, including maintaining client records (both digital and physical), scheduling meetings, and communicating with clients while relaying messages for legal staff.
  3. Paralegal Assistance: Undertake paralegal tasks under the guidance of legal staff, which includes meeting clients, gathering necessary documentation, and preparing legal forms.
  4. Eligibility Communication: Effectively convey information to clients and community partners regarding eligibility for CCS Immigration Program Services.
  5. Rights Education: Facilitate Know Your Rights presentations and conduct legal screening interviews for minors as necessary.
  6. Case Documentation: Accurately document all case-related activities in the client's file or electronic system.
  7. Language Services: Provide interpretation and translation services as required.
  8. Confidentiality Maintenance: Uphold strict attorney/client confidentiality standards.
  9. Other assigned duties as needed.

Work Environment

  1. This position is situated in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

  1. While primarily a sedentary role, it may involve some filing tasks, which could require lifting files and occasional bending or standing.

Education and Experience

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal Certification, or equivalent experience.
  2. Bilingual Skills: Proficient in both Spanish and English.
  3. Office Software Knowledge: Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  4. Data Entry Skills: Competent in accurate data entry and keyboarding.
  5. Office Management Understanding: Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.
  6. Immigration Law Experience: Preferred experience in immigration law.
  7. Child-Related Experience: Preferred experience in a law office or working with children.

Background Check Requirement: Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.

Licenses and Certifications: None required.

Position Status and Schedule: The general work schedule includes up to 20-25 hours distributed between Monday and Friday, with flexible hours available to accommodate your schedule.
