About the Role:

The Correction Officer is responsible for maintaining control of the institution to provide for the safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the general public. This involves enforcing rules, regulations, and policies, as well as supervising and directing inmate activity in assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining control of the institution to ensure safety and security
  • Supervising and directing inmate activity
  • Assuring assigned areas are clean, safe, and secure
  • Monitoring and operating security controls, equipment, and computers
  • Operating automotive vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation
  • Conducting inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
  • Completing required reports and serving on committees
  • Preventing escapes or incidents that threaten security
  • Using physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates when necessary

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid driver's license for positions assigned to transportation
  • Commercial driver's license for driving commercial vehicles
