Position Overview:
As a Traffic Engineering Specialist at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, you will play a crucial role in our Traffic Division, contributing to the design and implementation of traffic systems that enhance safety and efficiency for all road users.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be tasked with:
- Conducting traffic analyses and safety studies aimed at improving the safety of vehicles and pedestrians.
- Creating detailed plans for pavement markings, signage, traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and lighting.
- Planning and coordinating various phases of engineering work for both minor and major projects.
- Analyzing survey reports, maps, and other relevant data to inform project planning.
- Performing design computations and ensuring compliance with client specifications using industry-standard software such as MicroStation and Open Roads.
- Estimating construction costs and assisting in the preparation of engineering documents.
- Compiling contract plans, specifications, and estimates while ensuring timely project completion.
- Collaborating with team members to maintain quality and meet deadlines.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this position, candidates should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
- 0-4 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering.
- Intermediate proficiency with MicroStation, GEOPAK, and OpenRoads.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office and effective communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
While not mandatory, the following are advantageous:
- Engineer Intern certification (EI) or the ability to obtain it within 6-12 months of hire.
- Experience collaborating with local government clients.
- Familiarity with traffic simulation software such as Synchro, TransModeler, or HCS.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily office-based, with occasional fieldwork required. The office environment is generally comfortable, with standard lighting and temperature conditions. Some physical activity, such as lifting up to 25 lbs, may be necessary.
