Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Early Childhood Education Support Specialist is required to be professionally trained and equipped to engage with infants and toddlers along with their families in a culturally sensitive manner. A solid understanding of early childhood development, relevant program standards, and the ability to follow guidance is essential. Professional conduct is expected at all times.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in executing the educational curriculum and adhere to the established performance standards for early childhood settings. Contribute to the development of suitable weekly and daily lesson plans that incorporate multicultural resources and activities, ensuring a balance of indoor and outdoor learning experiences, and family-style dining practices as per program guidelines.
  • Help organize the learning environment into well-defined areas, regularly updating materials to foster an engaging atmosphere for young learners. Ensure the classroom remains tidy, secure, and organized, with accessible learning resources for children.
  • Prepare the classroom prior to the arrival of children and ensure it is ready for the following day.
  • Facilitate the learning process for infants and toddlers, applying appropriate developmental knowledge while remaining actively engaged with the children both indoors and outdoors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to observe and document child development, making necessary referrals as needed.
  • Maintain required documentation in partnership with the Lead Teacher as per program policies.
  • Support the Lead Teacher in conducting developmental assessments as assigned.
  • Engage in effective communication with parents, in collaboration with the Lead Teacher.
  • Assist the Lead Teacher during home visits and parent meetings when necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case management discussions, and program-wide meetings.
  • Actively engage in professional development opportunities and share insights with colleagues.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to supervise and support infants and toddlers, ensuring a safe and nurturing learning environment, including the capacity to respond promptly in various situations.
  • Ability to assist the Lead Teacher in guiding and facilitating the learning experiences of young children.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies or crises.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education and development principles.
  • Ability to connect with infants, toddlers, and adults in a sensitive and mature manner.
  • Capability to provide consistent leadership and support for program continuity.
  • Timely maintenance of program documentation as required by management.
  • Collaborate professionally with team members to address any staff or family concerns.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards at all times.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED; one year of experience working with young children.
  • Willingness to pursue a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or attend relevant early childhood education classes.
  • Strong interpersonal, nurturing, and problem-solving skills.
  • Current CDA credential is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and insurability.
  • Current First Aid and Infant/Child CPR certification.
  • Completion of a physical examination confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • No prior convictions related to child welfare or any felonies, with a background check required prior to employment.
  • Compliance with the organization's drug-free workplace policies, including pre-employment drug testing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift and carry children weighing over 20 pounds.
  • Moderate lifting and carrying requirements, including daily kneeling, bending, and sitting on the floor to meet children's needs.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willingness to take on additional duties as needed within the program.
  • Attend to the physical needs of infants and toddlers, including diapering and feeding.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Maintain punctuality and a strong attendance record, performing duties in a professional and timely manner.
