Role Purpose

The Mortgage Consultant plays a crucial role in driving sales of residential mortgage and home equity loan products to both prospective and existing clients, aiming to meet established production targets. This role involves conducting loan discussions by meeting clients outside of the bank's premises, and if convenient, at a branch location. The Consultant will cultivate and maintain a broad network of mortgage loan referral sources, including retail branch partners, real estate agents, builders, and other influential professionals. Active community involvement is essential, as the Consultant will provide consumer education and promote homeownership.

The Mortgage Consultant must possess a thorough understanding of all residential mortgage and home equity products offered by the bank and stay informed about relevant regulations governing the mortgage lending industry. As a trusted advisor, they will deliver exceptional customer service throughout the loan decision process, from initial consultations to loan closing. Individualized attention will be given to each applicant to assess their mortgage needs and provide tailored recommendations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Consistently achieve or surpass production, referral, and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Engage in face-to-face meetings with clients and potential clients within a designated sales territory to discuss lending options and review financial information.
  • Regularly travel to develop business opportunities and collaborate with external sources for referrals.
  • Ensure an exceptional customer experience while providing guidance on product offerings.
  • Accurately input application information into the loan origination system.
  • Collect necessary documentation from applicants to complete loan packages.
  • Maintain proactive communication with prospective borrowers throughout the application process.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to other business lines by participating in team meetings and joint sales efforts.
  • Identify client financial needs and make referrals through the sales referral system.
  • Keep the sales referral system updated with incoming mortgage referrals.
  • Collaborate with the loan fulfillment team to ensure compliance with regulations and efficient processing.
  • Enhance job knowledge through continuous education and participation in professional organizations.
  • Demonstrate initiative in building a referral network among retail partners and other professionals.
  • Engage in community activities that promote the bank and homeownership.
  • Participate in Consumer Lending meetings as required.
  • Share product and service knowledge with peers.
  • Lead projects related to Consumer and Residential Lending.
  • Complete required training and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage a dynamic pipeline.
  • Excellent communication skills, with public speaking experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze complex personal financial information.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Preferred experience of 5 years in residential mortgage lending or related sales roles.
  • S.A.F.E. Act registration required upon employment.
