Job Summary

The Deputy Auditor-Property is responsible for the computation and distribution of property tax settlements, administration of delinquent tax collections, and other related tasks. This role also involves the administration of elections, including voter registration and absentee voting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Property Tax and Related Settlements
    • Administers delinquent tax collection process, including mailing notices and preparing affidavits.
    • Administers tax forfeiture process, including preparation of notices and certificates of forfeiture.
    • Performs split and combination maintenance of parcels, including adding and deleting parcels and amending plat books.
    • Performs parcel maintenance on the tax system, including updating taxpayer IDs and property addresses.
  • Elections
    • Enters post-election voter history and administers absentee voting, including UOCAVA and permanent absentee lists.
    • Assists with election day preparation, election judge training, and election night reporting.
  • Other Important Duties
    • Assists taxpayers with licenses, deeds, and other documents.
    • Provides information to the public and assists with passport applications.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of accounting or closely related experience.
  • 4 years of experience in a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of computer systems used in tax collection and basic bookkeeping principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal land descriptions and land measurements.
  • Ability to organize work, adhere to reporting deadlines, and prepare accurate accounting reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, state officials, and the public.
