Job Summary

The Deputy Auditor-Property and Tax is responsible for the computation and distribution of property taxes, as well as the administration of delinquent tax collections and confession of judgment contracts. This role also involves the calculation and distribution of state aids, including county program aid, PERA aid, and market value credit for all property classifications.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Property Tax Computation and Distribution: Administers property tax computation and distribution, including the preparation and proofing of lists for publication, mailing of official notices, and maintenance of tax judgment books.
  2. Tax Forfeited Land Sales: Administers tax forfeited land sales, including the compilation of information necessary for county board review, requesting township approval, and attaining wetlands certifications.
  3. Delinquent Tax Collections: Administers delinquent tax collections, including the preparation and mailing of preliminary notices, publication of lists, and maintenance of tax judgment books.
  4. Confession of Judgment Contracts: Administers confession of judgment contracts, including the preparation of contracts, bills, and notices, and the receipt of payments.
  5. State Aids: Calculates and distributes state aids, including county program aid, PERA aid, and market value credit for all property classifications.
  6. Elections: Enters post-election voter history, administers and maintains absentee voting, and assists with election day preparation and election night reporting.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years of accounting or closely related experience.
  • 4 years of experience in taxation and elections administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of computer systems utilized in the collection of taxes.
  • Considerable knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of statutes and regulations applicable to the payment and collection of taxes.
  • Extensive knowledge of legal land descriptions and land measurements.
  • Ability to organize work and adhere to reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of moderate difficulty.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, state officials, employees, and the public.
