Position Summary:

The Patient Account Specialist plays a crucial role in managing patient accounts and ensuring accurate billing processes. This position requires a strong understanding of healthcare billing practices and the ability to navigate complex insurance systems.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conduct monthly assessments of designated payer accounts.
2. Process incoming mail and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) for the facility.
3. Verify insurance coverage and payment details for residents, maintaining accurate records in the facility database.
4. Document updates and progress on designated payer accounts in the facility's receivables notes.
5. Address any issues or concerns related to payer accounts promptly and efficiently.
6. Communicate via telephone to follow up on past due accounts and conduct necessary collection calls.
7. Prepare accounts for the collections department and identify accounts for potential write-off due to bad debt.
8. Perform miscellaneous business office tasks as required.
9. Uphold confidentiality regarding all resident and staff information.
10. Interact tactfully with residents, families, and the general public.

Qualifications:

- High School diploma required; additional coursework in accounting or bookkeeping is preferred.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance processes is essential.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently are necessary.
- Proficiency in computer systems is required, with three to five years of relevant experience.
