This role is situated within the Headquarters of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). The individual in this capacity holds comprehensive authority as delegated by the Attorney General to oversee all facets of EOIR's operations.
The Director is supported by a Deputy Director, who may receive delegated responsibilities. Together with senior advisors, they ensure effective management and supervision of EOIR's various components and personnel in fulfilling their duties.
The Director is responsible for the overall direction, supervision, and final decisions regarding budget formulation, administration, personnel management, and operational oversight of EOIR functions.
This position serves as the primary representative of EOIR's policies to key stakeholders, including the Attorney General, congressional members, and other governmental entities, as well as the media and non-profit organizations focused on immigration issues.
Key Responsibilities- Develops and implements comprehensive policies across the division to achieve EOIR and Department objectives through effective management strategies.
- Advocates for EOIR's program and resource requirements with external entities, including the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Government Accountability Office (GAO).
- Provides overarching executive policy guidance and administrative coordination under the Attorney General's delegated authority, ensuring compliance with federal immigration laws through immigration court proceedings and administrative hearings.
- Offers legal counsel on matters pertinent to the Attorney General.
- Represents the Attorney General in discussions regarding policy and program objectives, relaying insights and feedback from various stakeholders.
- Prepares legal reports outlining findings and recommending actions to address issues arising from assigned responsibilities.
Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or Nationals. A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and a minimum of five years of relevant post-J.D. experience are required. Active bar membership in good standing is also necessary.
