As a key component of Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc., HHRI serves as the research division of Hennepin County Medical Center, a prominent acute care research and teaching facility. HHRI ranks among the largest nonprofit medical research entities in Minnesota and is consistently recognized for its significant research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We are in search of a dynamic, resourceful, and results-oriented IT executive to spearhead various technological initiatives at HHRI.
Role Summary:
The Senior Director of ITS will be accountable for optimizing the value derived from technology throughout the organization, ensuring maximum effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction among stakeholders, while aligning with HHRI programs and the overarching HHS framework. A comprehensive understanding of HHRI's operations, including federal privacy and security mandates, is essential for leading the team in adopting technologies that bolster HHRI's research and operational capabilities.
The Senior Director will identify and facilitate the deployment of technological solutions that align with HHRI's objectives in technology, computing, and system security. They will build and lead a team focused on enhancing processes, efficiency, and user experience. Staying informed on trends and innovations, they will provide strategic recommendations for the integration of new tools and systems at HHRI. Collaboration with the VP-Operations/COO and other organizational leaders will be crucial to ensure the smooth integration and ongoing effectiveness of both new and existing ITS systems. Ultimately, they will guide the organization's digital strategy and oversee its implementation through the ITS team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and oversee comprehensive information system technology strategies for HHRI.
- Lead a team collaborating with researchers and campus ITS personnel to assess HHRI's long-term ITS system requirements, hardware acquisitions, and software developments to meet organizational goals.
- Utilize extensive experience and judgment to fulfill objectives, including the conception, design, and refinement of solutions addressing HHRI's ITS needs.
- Manage and evaluate all personnel involved in hardware and software development.
- Develop and oversee ITS budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness and the maintenance of an ITS infrastructure that meets organizational demands.
- Assess ITS procedures, systems, development methodologies, and training needs, taking accountability for these areas.
- Evaluate proposals from administration, scientific personnel, and vendors to determine feasibility, applicability, system functions, and financial requirements, making recommendations to leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Direct the development and implementation of HHRI's information system technology strategies.
- Manage a diverse range of projects, ensuring adherence to ITS standards and methodologies.
- Ensure compliance with federal ITS security regulations, implementing and maintaining necessary security measures.
- Assess and manage ITS procedures, systems, development methodologies, and training requirements.
- Oversee departmental policies and procedures for end users.
- Provide budgetary input and oversight related to ITS staff and departmental operations.
- Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate ITS staff in accordance with HHRI's human resources policies.
Qualifications:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge and skills is acceptable. Typical qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, along with at least 12 years of experience in structured design/programming, object-oriented design/programming, client-server computing, and database concepts. Experience in a healthcare or academic setting within a mid-sized, complex organization is preferred. Candidates should possess strong negotiation skills and up-to-date knowledge of information technology.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Candidates should demonstrate problem-solving capabilities and a solid understanding of database technology, data communications networks, and computer hardware. Leadership in fostering teamwork and a service-oriented environment is crucial, along with a commitment to ethical principles and effective project management methodologies.
