Job Summary:

Old Republic Surety Company is seeking a highly skilled Bond Manager to join its Underwriting Team in the Upstate NY Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring profitability and growth of the branch office through effective management of personnel and resources, as well as marketing and underwriting acceptable bond classes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide effective management, coaching, and mentoring to staff to meet profit and growth goals.
  • Set and achieve net profit goals to meet Company objectives and set production and territorial growth goals to ensure growth of the Company.
  • Review and critique underwriting submissions to meet company standards and accept/reject risks within underwriting guidelines.
  • Identify staffing needs within the branch and supervise direct reports, making recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action.
  • Prepare and meet expense budget to contribute to overall profitability.
  • Keep current with marketing trends in the area and advise the company on these to respond appropriately to local needs and prevent adverse impact on the book of business.
  • Participate in regular travel of the assigned territory, including attending agency visits, participating in industry-specific events, and meeting with prospective business partners.
  • Develop and maintain the agency database using CRM software to assist in marketing growth objectives and train staff on its utilization.

Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five years of progressively successful managerial experience in underwriting, production, and marketing within the fidelity and surety industry. The Bond Manager position requires a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle operator's record that is considered satisfactory as defined by company and/or corporate procedures. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment, with proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office products, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records and exercise discretion with confidential information.
