Underwriting Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriter to join our team at Trustco Bank. As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in managing the underwriting process for residential lending, ensuring that all loan documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and verify loan documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Analyze financial statements, credit reports, and other supporting documentation to assess the borrower's creditworthiness.
- Review property appraisals to ensure they meet the bank's policies and guidelines.
- Maintain and ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations affecting the underwriting and issuance of credit to borrowers.
- Stay up-to-date with current knowledge of all loan products and origination requirements.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent education or experience.
- Customer service experience.
- Underwriting experience.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work to time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to work well independently and in groups.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, including Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree or higher in a business-related field.
Work Environment:
This is a full-time position with office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm, and some Saturdays. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel using a personal vehicle, occasional overnight travel, and a valid driver's license are required.
Language Skills:
Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace; bilingual skills a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, including company policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
Physical Demands:
This is a largely sedentary role, requiring the use of typical office equipment, such as a computer, laptop, and phone. Ability to communicate both in person and/or by telephone.
