POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer for Academic Affairs at the University of St. Augustine (USAHS) plays a pivotal role within the finance division, reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance. This position is essential for overseeing the financial reporting related to academic operations and managing labor planning across the institution. Responsibilities encompass faculty, contributing faculty, student workers, and staff labor planning, analysis, and reporting to optimize labor productivity. The CFO will also provide strategic guidance on policy matters and support financial analysis tailored to specific programs.

This role requires close collaboration with campus and program directors to facilitate investment planning for academic resources and long-term development of program-specific investments.

The CFO will ensure comprehensive financial oversight regarding governance and compliance matters, supporting necessary reporting and facilitating a strategic financial planning process that includes the preparation of presentation materials for senior leadership meetings.

Working alongside the senior executive team, the CFO will analyze historical financial data, identify trends, evaluate business opportunities, and develop strategic plans that measure success and inform future decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Acting as the primary liaison between the University leadership and the Finance Department.
  • Leading the annual budgeting process with input from academic department heads.
  • Preparing and delivering detailed budget analyses and resource allocation explanations to Department and Program Directors.
  • Evaluating budgetary trends and providing strategic recommendations for budget optimization.
  • Assessing academic policy decisions for their financial implications in both the short and long term.
  • Recommending and implementing necessary changes to financial policies and procedures.
  • Serving as the academic and finance liaison to accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and procurement departments, ensuring adherence to university policies.
  • Collaborating with the procurement department on the acquisition of academic materials.
  • Reviewing major contractual obligations to ensure alignment with financial and strategic objectives.
  • Staying informed about industry standards and emerging practices.
  • Preparing high-value strategic reports and presentations that reflect the strategic direction of campus and departmental programs.
  • Ensuring university-wide workforce planning aligns with budget forecasts.
  • Collaborating with leadership to ensure compliance with programmatic accreditation standards.
  • Developing and executing academic policies that influence budgeting processes.
  • Leading the forecasting process across the academic organization.
  • Providing training to department administrators on budget management and financial policies.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned as necessary by management.

POSITION REPORTING
Reports to: Vice President, Finance
Supervises: Academic Financial Analyst

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to executive audiences.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; a Master's or MBA is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of finance experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in higher education financial planning is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills and financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position may require occasional travel for meetings and training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The role is primarily office-based, with standard office conditions and moderate noise levels. The position involves extensive use of personal computer equipment and typical office physical demands.
