Position Summary

Our esteemed non-profit client is in search of a Chief Financial Officer/Chief Strategy Officer who will be pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity and strategic direction of the organization. This executive will collaborate closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and the leadership team to propel strategic initiatives, secure financial viability, and enhance overall organizational effectiveness. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader committed to financial excellence and capable of providing strategic insights within a non-profit framework.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Direction:
    1. Formulate and execute financial strategies that resonate with the organization's mission and vision.
    2. Deliver strategic insights to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior management based on comprehensive financial analysis.
    3. Facilitate the strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overarching goals.
    4. Conduct thorough market analysis to guide strategic decisions and pinpoint growth opportunities.
    5. Lead the financial planning cycle, encompassing budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial strategies.
    6. Encourage a culture of innovation and accountability throughout the organization.
  2. Financial Oversight:
    1. Manage all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, and auditing processes.
    2. Guarantee timely and accurate financial reporting to the Board, funding entities, and stakeholders.
    3. Oversee cash flow management, investment strategies, and asset oversight to maintain financial health.
    4. Utilize data-driven insights to enhance decision-making processes through regular engagement with leadership.
    5. Supervise investment activities and the management of organizational assets.
    6. Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and funding stipulations.
  3. Risk and Compliance Management:
    1. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies.
    2. Oversee risk management initiatives, including the establishment of internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
    3. Verify that the organization maintains adequate insurance and risk management protocols.
  4. Fundraising and Development Support:
    1. Collaborate with the development team to identify funding avenues and strategies for revenue diversification.
    2. Provide financial analysis and support for grant proposals, donor engagement, and fundraising initiatives.
    3. Assist the Development team in ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
    4. Deliver analytical reports to support the Development team in achieving their objectives.
  5. Leadership and Team Development:
    1. Promote a collaborative environment that fosters teamwork and innovative problem-solving.
    2. Inspire and mentor the finance team, cultivating a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    3. Encourage professional growth and skill enhancement within the finance team.
  6. Thought Leadership:
    1. Act as a thought leader within the organization, contributing to strategic direction and operational effectiveness.
    2. Represent the organization at external engagements, advocating for financial health and sustainability.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years in financial management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic financial planning and execution within a non-profit context.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing teams.
