About the Role:

The Healthcare Businesswomen's Association is on the lookout for a dedicated, innovative, and team-oriented scientist to become a part of our Biological Chemistry group. This role is pivotal in our mission to uncover groundbreaking cancer therapies. We are an early-stage drug discovery team that delves into the molecular mechanisms of novel cancer targets, aiming to discover, characterize, and optimize small molecule therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop biochemical and biophysical assays utilizing various detection technologies to identify and characterize cancer targets and small molecule modulators.
  2. Measure binding affinity and kinetics, and analyze the mode of binding of ligands to relevant proteins.
  3. Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies and novel assay methodologies to enhance drug discovery initiatives.
  4. Contribute to medicinal chemistry efforts by assessing compound structure-activity relationships (SAR) and mode of action.
  5. Engage in collaborative discussions and challenge scientific assumptions with a diverse team of cross-functional scientists.

Essential Qualifications:

This position is based in Cambridge, MA and is not eligible for remote work. Travel is not required.

  1. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology, or a related discipline, with at least 1 year of relevant laboratory research experience, or a master's degree with 0-1 years of experience.
  2. Strong understanding of protein functionality and enzyme mechanisms, with experience in biochemical and/or biophysical assay development for protein targets and small molecule inhibitor characterization.
  3. Proficient technical skills in laboratory settings, a strong desire to learn, and a readiness to tackle complex scientific challenges.
  4. Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  5. Familiarity with fluorescence-based assay techniques (e.g., HTRF, FP, or quench assays) and label-free technologies (e.g., SPR, ITC, DSF, or mass spectrometry) is advantageous.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Hands-on experience with automation to facilitate medium to high throughput assays.
