Job Summary

We're seeking a skilled Rotating Machinery Engineer to spearhead the design of the rotating machinery within our energy-producing nodes. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be responsible for all aspects of powertrain design, from conceptual design to procurement and assembly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop the powertrain, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency
  • Support the sizing and selection of the hydraulic machine design point within the energy-producing node
  • Own the mechanical integration of the electrical generator into the powertrain, working closely with our electromagnetics engineering team
  • Layout and design all aspects of the rotating machine, including turbine hydrodynamics, rotordynamics, bearing selection, and instrumentation selection
  • Lead and participate in design reviews with the internal team and interface with external fabricators and vendors
  • Oversee project documentation and create detailed drawings with a strong command of GD&T and associated tolerance stacks
  • Work with and direct a skilled technician workforce to carry out prototyping, testing, fabrication, and development of operational and maintenance procedures
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Extensive experience designing rotating machinery, including pumps, turbines, compressors, and turbochargers
  • 5+ years of 3D CAD modeling experience
  • Experience with structural FEA and finite element analysis software packages
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide guidance and technical material to engineers, designers, technicians, and suppliers
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and associated tolerance stacks
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, self-starting, and demanding atmosphere
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience designing piping systems and power transmission drivetrains
  • Hands-on hardware experience with fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Experience with rapid prototyping processes and instrumentation and control components
