Overview of Responsibilities

This position is designated for an Opportunity School within Henrico County Public Schools, focusing on enhancing educational experiences for students.

The Middle School Innovation Center aims to provide engaging learning opportunities where students take an active role in their educational journey, understand the relevance of their studies, and express their knowledge in innovative ways. The center's mission is to foster an environment where students excel academically, acquire essential skills for life, and develop a strong connection to their community and the world around them.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.

    Professional Expectations:
    • Design and implement learning experiences that encourage creativity, entrepreneurial thinking, and community engagement through project-based learning.
    • Integrate cross-disciplinary learning to enhance understanding, stimulate critical thinking, and create connections between subjects, enriching the educational experience.
    • Employ data-driven and differentiated instruction to tailor learning, addressing the diverse strengths and foundational levels of all students.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and execute individualized learning strategies for all students, including those identified as gifted, multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and those with 504 plans, ensuring personalized support.
    • Utilize assessment data to continually refine instructional methods that boost student engagement and deepen comprehension.
    • Create assessments that track academic progress and allow students to showcase their learning through various evidence-based methods.
    • Provide resources that support student-selected methods of demonstrating knowledge.
    • Craft captivating learning experiences that ignite students' curiosity and passion for learning.
    • Incorporate educational technology to improve learning outcomes, utilizing digital tools and resources that support instruction and student engagement.
    • Establish positive and adaptable learning environments that are safe, inclusive, and centered on student needs.
    • Ensure students feel connected to the educational community and grasp the real-world applications of their learning.
    • Encourage student voice and choice in their educational processes, empowering them to take an active role in their learning journey.
    • Maintain accurate records of student performance, including goal-setting and learning management.
    • Engage in professional learning communities to discuss and implement effective strategies for designing, delivering, and assessing learning.
    • Partner with colleagues and families to create a cohesive support system that connects students to their educational community.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with curriculum trends and innovative teaching strategies.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid VDOE license with an endorsement in a middle school subject area.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and a valid teaching license in the specified curriculum are required.
  • Experience in applying innovative teaching methods and project-based learning.
  • Strong understanding of educational technology and its effective integration into the curriculum.
Additional Information

This position is a 209-day contract.
  • Minimum annual starting salary: $54,602 for Bachelor's, $57,223 for Master's *
(*The compensation mentioned is based on current salary rates and may be subject to adjustments based on future budget considerations.)
