Position Title: After-School Program Educator

Position Classification: Part-time, 10-month, Program Support, salaried exempt

Hours: 2:15pm-6:00pm Monday-Thursday; 1:30pm-6:00pm Friday, with special hours during

student holidays, professional days, and other hours as needed for meetings and professional development

Reports to: Director of Extended Day

Position Overview:

St. Christopher's School, a distinguished all-boys institution in Virginia, is on the lookout for an innovative and adaptable educator for its After-School Program. This unique initiative provides students with opportunities to engage in enriching academic, artistic, and athletic activities.

With a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, St. Christopher's School serves approximately 970 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia. Our mission is to cultivate young men of honor and integrity, grounded in our Episcopal foundation. We pride ourselves on delivering an education that emphasizes excellence across various domains, including academics, the arts, athletics, and community service.

The After-School Program caters to students from both the lower and middle schools, offering a comprehensive, year-round experience in a secure and familiar environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute co-curricular lessons that promote student development in academic, social, and emotional dimensions.
  • Organize engaging enrichment activities encompassing arts and crafts, games, cooking, and STEM projects.
  • Facilitate study sessions, provide academic assistance, and enhance time management and study skills.
  • Monitor student behavior actively and address disciplinary issues as they arise.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with team members and faculty from Lower and Middle Schools.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with parents regarding program details, student progress, and schedules.
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Essential Skills:
  • A commitment to educational best practices and a dedication to fostering an inclusive community.
  • A bachelor's degree or an associate degree with relevant experience in education is preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with children, ideally in an educational context.
  • Personal qualities and communication skills that support the growth and development of children.
  • A genuine passion for working with youth and a love for learning.
  • A creative and adaptable mindset coupled with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Comfort with daily technology use and a willingness to learn new platforms.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Occasionally required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during recess and carpool duty.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
