About the Role

United Way of the National Capital Area is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our resource development efforts as Chief Development Officer. This key leadership position will be responsible for driving the strategic direction, development, and implementation of our diverse fundraising channels to retain and increase revenue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Fundraising Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive, sustainable fundraising plan to retain existing and generate new revenue, aligning with United Way NCA's organizational vision and plans.
  • Revenue Generation: Lead and coordinate the goals, objectives, and work to maximize the organization's philanthropic revenue streams, including annual campaigns, workplace campaigns, and non-traditional revenue streams.
  • Team Leadership: Build and manage a successful Resource Development team of eight members, ensuring revenue and performance goals and results are achieved.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
  • Solid Educational Background and Experience: Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred in a related field or commensurate with experience. Minimum ten (10) years of related experience with a heavy emphasis on effective fundraising.
  • Leadership and Vision: Visionary leader who can develop goals and strategies and productively leverage partnerships for community engagement and contributions.
  • Results-Driven: Dedicated to shared and measurable goals for the common good, creating, resourcing, scaling, and leveraging strategies and innovations.
  • Operational Excellence: Develop, monitor, and manage departmental expense budgets within constraints of United Way NCA's financial plans.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A creative, critical thinker, self-motivated. Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and follow through.
  • Outward-Facing: Develops strategic relationships to benefit United Way NCA and the community.
