Our Schools:
Ripon Unified comprises five elementary schools, one high school, and one continuation high school. Approximately 2,288 elementary students are enrolled across the five elementary institutions for grades TK through 8. The two high schools together serve around 1,067 students in grades 9 through 12.

Our Staff:
Our certified staff includes over 150 educators and specialists providing regular classroom instruction and special services. Support staff consists of more than 200 employees, including aides, bilingual liaisons, secretaries, custodians, yard supervisors, and more. Our leadership team is made up of 18 administrators. Together, we foster a strong sense of community and a shared commitment to supporting our students.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

CUSTODIAL POSITION

JOB OVERVIEW:

Under general supervision, plan, schedule, and execute routine cleaning tasks in school, office, or multi-purpose facilities within the district; during scheduled breaks in the instructional program, perform routine grounds maintenance and gardening tasks, along with related custodial and maintenance duties as necessary.


QUALIFICATIONS:
1.

Knowledge:

Familiarity with methods, materials, and equipment utilized in custodial work; understanding of requirements for keeping school buildings and grounds safe, clean, and orderly.

2.

Ability:

To skillfully and efficiently use cleaning materials and equipment; employ basic mechanical tools for necessary minor repairs and adjustments; safely operate hand and power tools for gardening and grounds-keeping tasks; perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment, and maintain equipment.


Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

License:
Possession of a valid State of California school bus driver's license or the capability to obtain one.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1.

Consults with the principal regarding care and cleaning programs at a school facility, assists in preparing rooms for special events and requirements.

2.

Reports fire, sanitary, and safety hazards, along with necessary repair work to appropriate authorities; as directed by immediate supervisors, performs minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment, and maintains equipment.

3. Sweeps, scrubs, mops, and waxes floors; washes windows; cleans walls; furniture, woodwork, and other equipment.
4. May assist in training inexperienced personnel and monitoring their work.
5. Requisitions custodial supplies and equipment as necessary.
6. Maintains necessary records and prepares reports.

  • At appropriate times and as directed by the immediate supervisor, performs groundskeeping and gardening work as necessary to maintain site areas, including lawns, playgrounds, athletic fields, or planted areas; plants, fertilizes, and irrigates shrubs, trees, and lawns; sweeps pathways and collects litter.

CUSTODIAL POSITION

  • Responsible for completing the summer maintenance schedule developed in collaboration with the site administrator and Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds as follows:
  • Paints the interior and exterior of buildings using brushes, rollers, or spraying equipment. May require climbing ladders.
  • Installs or repairs fences, performs cement and asphalt work.
  • Prunes trees, removes weeds, installs and repairs irrigation systems.
  • Replaces lights and cleans light fixtures (ladder use required).
  • Shampoos carpets, moves equipment, and rearranges classroom furniture.
  • Scrubs and waxes floors using electrically powered floor machines. Mops floors and applies wax with a mop.
  • Receives supplies and moves boxes.
  • Performs minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work.
  • Dusts counters, cleans windows, and conducts general classroom cleaning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees in this role must possess the following abilities:

  • Normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate power and motorized equipment using both hands.
  • Physical agility to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, lift, and move objects up to 50 pounds at shoulder height and occasionally lift over 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • See and read printed materials, with or without visual aids, distinguish colors, read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions.
  • Verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels.

  • Ability to use telephones and office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.

May work on ladders or scaffolding, with potential exposure to moisture and some childhood diseases in a school environment.

Regular interaction with Ripon Unified School District Staff, District Office Staff, and the public.

Assignment: 8 hours per day as determined by Supervisor of Building & Grounds
