Our Schools:
Ripon Unified comprises five elementary schools, one high school, and one continuation high school, serving approximately 2,288 elementary students across grades TK through 8. The two high schools collectively accommodate around 1,067 students in grades 9 through 12.

Our Staff:
Our team includes over 150 certificated staff members, including teachers and specialists, along with more than 200 support staff members, such as aides, bilingual liaisons, secretaries, custodians, and yard duties. Our leadership team consists of 18 administrators, all working collaboratively to support our students.

Job Summary:
Job Description / Essential Elements:

CUSTODIAL STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, organize, schedule, and execute routine cleaning tasks in school, office, or multi-purpose facilities within the district. During designated breaks in the instructional schedule, perform regular grounds maintenance and gardening duties, along with related custodial and maintenance tasks as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.

Knowledge:
Familiarity with methods, materials, and equipment utilized in custodial services; understanding of the requirements for keeping school facilities and grounds safe, clean, and orderly.

2. Ability:
To effectively use cleaning materials and equipment; operate basic mechanical tools for minor repairs and adjustments; safely handle gardening and grounds-keeping tools; perform minor repairs and maintenance on building fixtures and equipment.

3. Education:
Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.

4. License:
Possession of a valid State of California school bus driver's license or the ability to obtain one.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1.

Collaborate with the principal regarding care and cleaning protocols at the school, assisting in setting up spaces for special events.

2.

Report fire, sanitary, and safety hazards, as well as necessary repairs, to the appropriate authorities; perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment as directed by supervisors.

3. Sweep, scrub, mop, and wax floors; clean windows; maintain walls, furniture, woodwork, and other equipment. 4. May assist in training less experienced personnel and oversee their work. 5. Order custodial supplies and equipment as required. 6. Maintain necessary records and prepare reports. 7.

At designated times and as directed, perform groundskeeping and gardening tasks to maintain site areas, including lawns, playgrounds, and athletic fields; plant, fertilize, and irrigate shrubs, trees, and lawns; clear walkways and dispose of litter.

CUSTODIAL STAFF 8.

Responsible for completing the summer maintenance schedule developed in collaboration with the site administrator and Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, which includes:

  • Painting the interior and exterior of buildings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment, including climbing ladders as necessary. Installing or repairing fences, performing cement and asphalt work, pruning trees, weeding, and maintaining irrigation systems. Replacing lights and cleaning fixtures (using ladders), shampooing carpets, moving classroom furniture, and scrubbing and waxing floors with powered equipment. Receiving supplies and moving boxes. Performing minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks. Dusting surfaces, cleaning windows, and general classroom upkeep.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees in this role must possess the following abilities: 1. Normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate power and motorized equipment effectively. 2.

Physical agility to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, lift, and move objects up to 50 pounds at shoulder height, with occasional lifting of over 50 pounds with assistance.

3. Demonstrate normal depth perception. 4. Stand and walk for extended periods. 5.

Ability to see and read printed materials, with or without visual aids, distinguish colors, and comprehend rules, policies, labels, and instructions.

6. Verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels. 7. Proficiency in using telephones and office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.

May involve working on ladders or scaffolding, with potential exposure to moisture and some childhood diseases in a school environment.

Regular interaction with staff from the Ripon Unified School District, District Office personnel, and the public.
