Our Educational Institutions:
Ripon Unified comprises five elementary schools, one high school, and one continuation high school, serving approximately 2,288 elementary students across grades TK through 8. The two high schools collectively accommodate around 1,067 students in grades 9 through 12.
Our Personnel:
Our certified staff includes over 150 educators and specialists delivering regular instruction and special services. The support staff consists of more than 200 employees, including aides, bilingual liaisons, secretaries, custodians, and yard supervisors. Our leadership team is made up of 18 administrators, all working together to foster a strong sense of community and a shared mission of supporting our students.
Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the custodian will plan, schedule, and execute routine cleaning tasks in school facilities, offices, or multi-purpose buildings. During designated breaks in the instructional schedule, the custodian will also perform grounds maintenance and gardening duties, along with other related custodial and maintenance responsibilities as needed.
Essential Qualifications:
1. Knowledge: Familiarity with methods, materials, and equipment utilized in custodial work; understanding of the requirements for keeping school facilities and grounds safe, clean, and orderly.
2. Skills: Ability to effectively use cleaning materials and equipment; proficiency in basic mechanical tools for minor repairs and adjustments; capability to safely operate gardening tools and perform minor repairs to building fixtures and equipment.
3. Education: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent.
4. License: Valid State of California school bus driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
Typical Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the principal to discuss care and cleaning programs for the school, assisting in setting up rooms for special events as needed.
2. Report any fire, sanitary, or safety hazards, and necessary repairs to the appropriate authorities; perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment as directed.
3. Conduct cleaning tasks such as sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, and waxing floors; washing windows; and cleaning walls, furniture, and other equipment.
4. Assist in training less experienced personnel and oversee their work.
5. Order custodial supplies and equipment as required.
6. Maintain necessary records and prepare reports.
7. Perform groundskeeping and gardening work as directed, including maintaining lawns, playgrounds, and athletic fields; planting, fertilizing, and irrigating as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Employees in this role must possess the following abilities:
1. Normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating power and motorized equipment.
2. Physical agility to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, pull, lift, and move objects up to 50 pounds at shoulder height, and occasionally lift over 50 pounds with assistance.
3. Ability to see and read printed materials, with or without visual aids, and distinguish colors.
4. Verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels.
Work Environment:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals.
May involve working on ladders or scaffolding, with some exposure to moisture and various health risks in a school environment.
Regular interaction with district staff and the public is expected.Immediate Supervisor:
