Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Research Technician I to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As an Animal Research Technician I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of research animals, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and adhering to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of animal quarters, including rotating animal cages and racks for cleaning, sweeping and mopping animal quarters, and disinfecting walls and sanitizing animal quarters.
  • Animal Care: Provide routine care of research animals, including feeding, providing adequate food, bedding, enrichment devices, and water, checking animals daily for signs of illness, and notifying veterinary technicians of any unusual conditions.
  • Environmental Conditions: Monitor and control environmental conditions, including temperature, ventilation, and lighting in animal rooms and related areas, and adjust conditions as needed.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of room activities, including information on animal care, cleaning, and environmental conditions.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor supplies for specific animal quarters, maintain adequate supplies, and restock areas as needed.
  • Equipment and Supplies: Assist with relocation of facility equipment and supplies, transport equipment and supplies to new locations, and complete assignments on a timely basis.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to care of laboratory animals, maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, and follow departmental procedures to implement enrichment programs for laboratory animals.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years of experience in an animal research facility preferred.
  • AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level required; 2-year college degree in an animal or biological sciences course of study may substitute for ALAT.
  • Ability to speak and write fluent English required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Approved drivers must have a valid NYS Drivers License and a clean driving record.
  • Prior experience in truck and/or van driving of materials in shipping, receiving, and distribution preferred.
