Position Overview:

As a vital member of our healthcare team, the Nursing Unit Supervisor plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for our Residents. This position involves overseeing, coordinating, and managing nursing care and health education for residents within the designated unit during all operational hours.

Key Responsibilities:

To ensure the highest standards of care, the following duties are essential:

  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge and clinical proficiency to effectively oversee all nursing functions within the facility or assigned units.
  • Review and implement nursing protocols and systems relevant to the unit(s).
  • Evaluate and assess systems that support the delivery of quality care to Residents.
  • Monitor and appraise the performance and competency of staff on unit(s).
  • Utilize a systematic approach to deliver personalized nursing care.
  • Conduct nursing assessments to determine the health status of Residents.
  • Contribute to the Resident's assessment and care planning processes.
  • Formulate and execute care plans based on thorough assessments.
  • Assess the effectiveness of nursing interventions and adjust as necessary.
  • Engage with physicians or licensed practitioners for consultations.
  • Clarify any orders or treatment plans that may be unclear or inappropriate.
  • Administer medications and treatments with a clear understanding of their effects.
  • Document and report on Residents' symptoms, responses, and overall status accurately.
  • Implement measures to ensure a safe environment for Residents and staff.
  • Design and facilitate educational programs for Residents based on their health needs.
  • Collaborate with Residents, healthcare team members, and significant others to support Resident care.
  • Utilize community resources and healthcare agencies to ensure continuity of care.
  • Accept nursing assignments that align with your qualifications and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Exercise independent judgment while adhering to facility policies and procedures.
  • Understand and implement safety and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in the RAI process as required.
  • Ensure charge nurses are effectively supervising their staff.
  • Handle calls as assigned.
  • Interpret company policies and make informed decisions accordingly.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow infection control guidelines and maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Uphold Resident rights by promoting informed decision-making and treating Residents with dignity.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Duties:

The Nursing Unit Supervisor is responsible for overseeing staff within the department, ensuring compliance with policies and legal standards. This includes:
  • Recruiting, hiring, and training nursing personnel.
  • Scheduling and directing work assignments.
  • Monitoring job performance and providing feedback.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and managing disciplinary actions.
  • Managing payroll processes for staff.
Qualifications:

  • Current state licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Certification in a nursing specialty is preferred.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state nursing regulations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts in practical scenarios.
  • Competence in problem-solving and data analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate staff effectively.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.
