Position Overview:
At SKLD Muskegon, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our Residents. The Nursing Unit Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing, organizing, and managing nursing care and health education for residents within their designated unit during all operational hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit the clinical knowledge and expertise necessary to effectively oversee all nursing operations within the facility or assigned units.
- Review and implement nursing protocols and systems relevant to the unit(s).
- Evaluate and assess the systems that ensure the delivery of high-quality care to Residents.
- Assess and evaluate the performance and qualifications of staff on the unit(s).
- Utilize a systematic approach to deliver personalized nursing care.
- Conduct nursing assessments to determine the health status of Residents.
- Contribute to the Resident's assessment and the formulation of a care plan.
- Develop and implement a care plan based on assessments and nursing interventions.
- Evaluate the responses of Residents to nursing actions.
- Select and implement appropriate nursing interventions to stabilize a Resident's condition and prevent complications.
- Consult with physicians or licensed independent practitioners as necessary.
- Clarify any treatment orders that appear inaccurate or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner.
- Understand the rationale behind medications and treatments and administer them correctly.
- Accurately document and report the symptoms, responses, and status of Residents.
- Ensure a safe environment for Residents and staff.
- Design and promote educational initiatives for Residents based on their health needs.
- Collaborate with Residents, healthcare team members, and significant others regarding healthcare decisions.
- Consult and refer to community agencies and healthcare resources to ensure continuity of care.
- Accept nursing assignments that align with one’s educational background and experience, seeking guidance when necessary.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in performing duties while adhering to facility policies.
- Understand and follow safety and emergency procedures.
- Participate in the RAI process as required.
- Ensure charge nurses adequately supervise their staff.
- Handle calls as assigned.
- Interpret company policies and make decisions based on their application.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required, including continuing education for professional certification.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and protect sensitive information.
- Understand and adhere to Infection Control guidelines and practices.
- Promote and protect Resident rights by assisting them in making informed choices and treating them with dignity.
- Perform additional tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Duties:
Supervises department employees and others for whom they hold administrative or professional responsibility, following relevant policies and laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training nursing staff; scheduling and directing work; managing performance evaluations; and handling disciplinary actions.
Qualifications:
- Current state license as a registered nurse.
- Certification in a nursing specialty is preferred.
- CPR Certification required.
- Experience in long-term care or geriatric nursing is preferred, with management or supervisory experience being a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations in nursing practice.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Ability to identify problems, gather data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Strong management and motivational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency is required.
