Patient Care Specialist

Job Summary:
Velocity Urgent Care, now solely owned by Sentara Health, is seeking a Patient Care Specialist to provide non-clinical support within our Urgent Care Clinic. This role ensures an exceptional patient experience by performing complex administrative tasks to support patient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule appointments and outpatient procedures under general supervision, coordinating referrals, resources, and pre-authorizations as needed.
- Provide general administrative support for practice operations, including scheduling meetings, preparing correspondence, and maintaining notes/minutes/files.
- Respond to telephone and written inquiries from internal and external sources, such as patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Employ initiative and independent judgment to prioritize and handle incoming requests and difficult problems.
Requirements:
- Three years of clerical and customer service experience required.
- One year of experience with health insurance plans, medical records data, medical terminology, registration, scheduling, or third-party payers required.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems preferred.
