Position Overview

The Engineering Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing the acquisition and maintenance of assets essential for the growth of Chomps. This position involves close collaboration with both internal teams and external partners to pinpoint investment opportunities that enhance quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement and Vendor Management:

  • Assess, select, and manage suppliers for thermoforming packaging machinery and automation equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a capital expenditure schedule that includes return on investment analysis.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing agreements with suppliers to ensure quality and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee the procurement lifecycle from requisition through to delivery, ensuring timely equipment acquisition.

Maintenance and Technical Support:

  • Establish and execute preventive maintenance strategies for packaging machinery.
  • Coordinate with external facilities for routine maintenance and inspections.
  • Manage troubleshooting and repair operations to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to external facility personnel regarding machinery operation and maintenance.

Performance Analysis and Improvement:

  • Evaluate performance metrics of packaging equipment to discover optimization opportunities.
  • Implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity in packaging processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges and foster continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, safety protocols, and industry best practices in packaging operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing engineering projects in packaging, particularly with thermoforming machinery and automation.
  • Strong technical knowledge in the operation and maintenance of packaging machinery.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers.
  • Proven leadership skills with the capability to inspire and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards relevant to packaging operations.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for equipment commissioning.

Compensation and Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000, plus an annual bonus.
