Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at VCU Health's Security Care Unit. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct, age-specific care to patients in our 16-bed Medical-Surgical Unit. Your primary responsibility will be to provide safe and direct care to patients, monitoring their conditions and updating the healthcare team as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to patients, including vital sign monitoring, intake and output tracking, and basic hygiene and activities of daily living care.
  • Assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition, as well as ambulation and patient mobility.
  • Obtain and record patient information, including admissions data, vital signs, and other relevant information.
  • Assist with specimen collection for diagnostic or waived tests.
  • Participate in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain courteous and effective rapport with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the healthcare team.
Requirements
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • Certification/Completion of one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Military Corpsmen/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program, or Experience within a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Cultural responsiveness and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Working Conditions

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.

Physical Requirements

Physical Demands: Lifting/Carrying 50 lbs., Push/Pull 50 lbs., Climb, Stoop, Kneel, Squat, Balance, Bend. Work Position: Sitting, Walking, Standing.
