Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at VCU Health. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct, age-specific care to patients in their homes, working closely with our nursing and medical teams to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and direct care to patients in their homes, making age-appropriate adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and provide updates to the healthcare team.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as feeding, hydration, and nutrition.
  • Contribute to the patient experience by accurately identifying the patient, observing safety goals, and reporting any incidents or concerns to the healthcare team.
  • Obtain and record patient information, including vital signs, intake and output, and other relevant data.
  • Assist with specimen collection and other clinical tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Certification/Completion of one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Military Corpsmen/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program, or Experience within a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent change.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
Working Conditions

As a Patient Care Technician, you will work in a variety of settings, including patients' homes, and may be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. You will also be required to use physical restraints and may be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.

Physical Requirements

The Patient Care Technician role requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift and carry patients, and the ability to work in a variety of environments. You will also be required to wear personal protective equipment and use electronic medical records.
