Patient Care Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our team at VCU Health. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the comfort, personal hygiene, and safety of our patients, while also maintaining a clean and stocked environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit, making age-appropriate adjustments as needed.
- Monitor patients' conditions and provide updates to the healthcare team.
- Assist with feeding, hydration, and nutrition, as well as ambulation and patient mobility.
- Contribute to the patient experience by accurately identifying patients, observing safety goals, and reporting any incidents posing harm or threat to patients.
- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information, including vital signs, intake/output, and calorie counts.
- Assist with the collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests.
- High School Degree or equivalent.
- Certification/Completion of one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Military Corpsmen/Medic, Nursing Aide Training Program, or Completion of foundations/clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as needed.
- Cultural responsiveness and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse. May be required to use physical restraints. May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.
